OpenAI, backed by Microsoft Corp., plans to restrict access to its tools and software in China starting in July. This move follows pressure from the U.S. government to limit China’s access to advanced AI technology. Chinese tech giants like Alibaba and Tencent are urging developers to use their products instead. Despite OpenAI’s official unavailability in China, developers have been using its tools via VPNs. China is developing its own AI models, including a large language model based on President Xi Jinping’s political philosophy. Apple Inc. could potentially partner with Chinese tech giants Alibaba and Baidu for its AI features in China.
