Connecticut firefighters are suing DuPont, 3M, Honeywell, and others over toxic PFAS chemicals in their gear. The lawsuit claims the chemicals, linked to cancer, were absorbed through the skin, ingestion, and inhalation, leading to health risks. The plaintiffs seek at least $5 million in damages for violations of product liability law.
DuPont and 3M are accused of producing the PFAS used in the gear, while Honeywell sold it without warning of risks. DuPont denies the allegations, stating they never manufactured PFOA and PFOS, two types of PFAS. The lawsuit targets the harmful effects of PFAS, known as “forever chemicals” due to their persistence in the body and environment.
PFAS are present in many consumer products, with links to health issues like cancer and low birth weights. Last year, companies reached $11 billion in settlements over PFAS-contaminated drinking water. The case, filed in Connecticut federal court, seeks justice for affected firefighters and holds manufacturers accountable for the harmful chemicals.
