Archer Aviation receives key certification from the FAA for its electric air taxi, bringing them closer to flying travelers. The company has been developing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOLs) with the aim of reducing carbon emissions and providing a new mode of transportation in congested urban areas.

Archer’s all-electric aircraft, “Midnight,” can fly up to 60 miles at speeds of 150 mph. The company has partnered with Stellantis to produce hundreds of these electric air taxis, and is currently working on getting FAA certification for passenger service to potentially start operating as early as next year.

United Airlines, who has ordered eVTOLs from Archer, is collaborating with the company on integrating these electric aircraft into their airport hubs. This partnership aims to provide passengers with a new transportation option, potentially reducing the environmental impact of traditional air travel in heavily populated areas.

Archer’s competitor, Joby Aviation, has also made significant progress in the development of eVTOLs, having received their Part 135 certificate two years ago. With partnerships with the U.S. Air Force and Delta Air Lines, Joby is focused on advancing autonomous aviation technology and expanding their presence in the electric air taxi industry.
