Elon Musk has dropped his lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging the ChatGPT maker abandoned its original mission to create AI for humanity’s benefit. The case was dismissed without prejudice, allowing Musk to file again. OpenAI denied breaching a contract, citing no founding agreement and leaked emails countering Musk’s claims.

Musk filed the lawsuit in February, claiming OpenAI prioritized profit over its original mission when signing a deal with Microsoft worth billions. OpenAI refuted Musk’s allegations as “contrived,” asserting its commitment to using artificial general intelligence (AGI) for the betterment of humanity. Musk withdrew his lawsuit one day before it was set to be reviewed by judges.
