Leopold Aschenbrenner, a former OpenAI researcher, revealed that he was fired for sharing safety-related documents with board members, warning about security threats from foreign entities. He was let go after allegedly leaking confidential information and not fully cooperating with the investigation, according to Aschenbrenner’s account.

In a recent interview, Aschenbrenner stated that he shared a document on AGI safety with external researchers for feedback, a common practice at OpenAI. The company deemed certain information in the document as confidential, leading to his dismissal over a perceived breach of trust.

OpenAI has refuted Aschenbrenner’s claims, stating that his concerns did not result in his termination and disagreeing with his criticisms of their work. Aschenbrenner is among several former employees raising safety issues at OpenAI, highlighting a growing call for transparency and protection for dissenting voices within AI companies.
