Walmart resists putting panic buttons in stores, amid New York legislation mandating it. New York State Senate passes legislation for panic buttons in big retail chains, including Walmart. Governor Kathy Hochul has 10 days to sign the Retail Worker Safety Act into law. The law would also require violence prevention and safety training for most retailers with 10 or more employees. Retail union RWDSU backs the bill.
At Walmart’s annual meeting, a safety-related proposal by store workers is voted down by shareholders. The proposal aimed to conduct an independent review of Walmart’s workplace safety policies and practices. Walmart, with a non-unionized workforce, faces pressure from the retail union RWDSU for better safety measures.
