Ford Motor is converting an abandoned Detroit train station into a $950 million technology campus. The restoration project includes an 18-story building, adjacent building, and various facilities. The project, announced in 2018, was delayed by the pandemic. Ford also plans to attract top talent to Detroit by providing a unique workspace.
The Michigan Central campus will feature commercial spaces, retail outlets, and restaurants, totaling 1.2 million square feet. The project received $300 million in tax incentives. The original beauty of the station was meticulously restored, including preserving some of the graffiti from its dormant years. The campus aims to create an innovative ecosystem with various tenants and businesses.
Chair Bill Ford Jr. sees the project as a vital part of Ford’s future, emphasizing the importance of providing top talent with interesting problems to solve and a great place to work. The campus, situated in Detroit’s Corktown area, is envisioned to house thousands of employees, primarily focused on electric vehicles and connected services. The project is a continuation of Bill Ford’s legacy in the Motor City.
