Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman audits OpenAI’s code

OpenAI was created as an AI safety countermeasure to DeepMind, acquired by Google in 2014. Mustafa Suleyman, a founder of DeepMind, now head of AI at Microsoft, is examining OpenAI’s algorithms for models like GPT-4. Microsoft’s investment gives it rights to OpenAI’s software. They compete, yet work closely together to launch products.
Microsoft has access to OpenAI products but not top secret research. With Suleyman at Microsoft, they have an advantage in AI development. The Wall Street Journal reported Microsoft is developing an in-house OpenAI competitor. Microsoft, OpenAI, and Suleyman declined to comment on the situation.
