Microsoft announced that it will delay the rollout of its new AI-powered feature “Recall” due to privacy concerns. The feature would track computer usage, from web browsing to voice chats, creating a searchable history stored on the computer. It will now be available for preview on their Windows Insider Program before being broadly released.

The decision to delay Recall is aimed at providing a secure experience for customers and gathering feedback to address any potential privacy issues. Copilot+ PCs, featuring AI capabilities, will be the main users of the Recall feature. Microsoft intends to make the Recall preview available for all Copilot+ PC users after feedback from the Windows Insider Program community.

Some users expressed privacy concerns over Recall, fearing it could enable spying. Elon Musk even compared it to a “Black Mirror episode”, reflecting the potential negative impact of advanced technology. The feature was originally set to launch on June 18, but Microsoft will now implement it gradually after gathering feedback from users.
