Elon Musk recently announced that he is no longer a fan of Apple devices like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers due to security concerns surrounding Apple’s partnership with OpenAI’s ChatGTP. Musk threatened to ban these devices from his companies and visitors will have to store their devices in a Faraday cage when entering.
Musk’s claims about potential security risks have been challenged, with some members of his social media fact-checking community calling his statements misleading. Additionally, Musk recently dropped a lawsuit against OpenAI, a company he co-founded but was suing until recently, which could suggest a more complicated situation surrounding his comments.
Apple introduced generative AI features during its WWDC event, including a deal to give users access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT gen AI chatbot. Users can choose to access ChatGPT through Siri and in new Writing Tools offered by Apple that will provide proofreading, rewriting, and summarizing features.
Apple said that its new AI systems will focus on privacy, with user data being processed on-device whenever possible and obscured by OpenAI to protect privacy. The integration of ChatGPT with Apple’s devices is intended to be an optional feature that users can choose to activate, not a default setting as suggested by Musk.
