New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon was forced to take a commercial flight to Japan after his defence force plane broke down during a refuelling stop in Papua New Guinea. The 30-year-old Boeing 757 left the business delegation and journalists stranded in Port Moresby, highlighting the Defence Force’s reliability issues.
Defence Minister Judith Collins called the consistent flight problems “embarrassing” and mentioned looking into commercial flights for Luxon’s delegation in the future. Luxon is set to meet with Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and promote New Zealand business during his four-day trip.
