OpenAI partners with Time magazine to access over a century of content for AI training, granting Time access to advanced AI tools and possible financial compensation. The collaboration strengthens OpenAI’s resources for sophisticated AI systems capable of generating human-like text.
However, OpenAI faces a lawsuit from the Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) alleging unauthorized use of copyrighted materials for AI training. CIR CEO Monica Bauerlein warns of the threat to traditional journalism if AI-generated content supplants direct engagement with news sources.
The lawsuit is part of a broader legal challenge from major news organizations like The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and Denver Post against OpenAI and Microsoft for using copyrighted content. Despite legal battles, OpenAI expands operations by acquiring Rockset to enhance data analytics capabilities and secure high-quality training data.
