Rio Tinto has agreed to acquire Mitsubishi Corp.’s 11.65% stake in Boyne Smelters Ltd, increasing its ownership to 73.5%. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Additionally, Rio Tinto recently secured Sumitomo Chemical Company’s 2.46% interest in the smelter. The acquisition is set to be finalized in the second half of 2024, with joint venture partners including YKK Aluminium, UACJ Australia, and Southern Cross Aluminium. No financial figures were provided in the report.
