OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is considering transitioning OpenAI into a for-profit corporation after previously shifting to a ‘capped-profit’ company to attract capital. Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Altman for deviating from the startup’s original mission, but later dropped the case. The company may restructure into a for-profit corporation.

Concerns have been raised about OpenAI veering off its mission of ensuring AI benefits all humanity. Elon Musk accused the company of betraying its founding mission and becoming a closed-source subsidiary for Microsoft. Musk ultimately dropped the lawsuit against OpenAI and Altman without prejudice, leaving the possibility of future legal action.
