The war for AI talent is heating up

OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, has seen a mass exodus of top researchers since the start of the year. Ilya Sutskever, a co-founder responsible for major breakthroughs, announced his resignation on May 14th. About half of the 100 AI experts hired by OpenAI since 2016 have left, indicating a broader trend in the tech industry.
The launch of ChatGPT in November 2022 has transformed the market for AI labor, with around 20,000 companies in the West now hiring AI experts. Rapid advances in machine learning and the potential for a “platform shift” have changed the skills employers seek and where AI talent is going. The market is shifting towards more distributed AI talent from tech giants.
