U.S. antitrust enforcers are investigating Microsoft, Nvidia, and OpenAI’s roles in the artificial intelligence boom. The Department of Justice will probe Nvidia, while the FTC will look into Microsoft and OpenAI. This comes after President Biden’s push for tougher scrutiny of Big Tech.

The FTC is examining relationships between AI startups like OpenAI and cloud providers like Microsoft. Microsoft has a close relationship with OpenAI, supplying computing resources for ChatGPT. Nvidia’s AI chips have seen high demand, leading the company’s stock to soar past $3 trillion in market value.

The Associated Press and OpenAI have a licensing agreement allowing OpenAI access to part of AP’s text archives. Microsoft and OpenAI did not comment on the pending investigations. Antitrust regulators have been monitoring monopolistic behavior in the AI industry for over a year, signaling tougher scrutiny for Big Tech.
