Exxon's lawsuit against Arjuna Capital dismissed over agreement on proxy filings

A U.S. judge dismissed Exxon Mobil’s lawsuit against Arjuna Capital after the activist group agreed not to pursue future proxy filings at the company’s annual meetings. The lawsuit, seen as potentially stifling debate, was dropped by the judge as Arjuna pledged to avoid submitting proposals about Exxon’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Arjuna and Follow This urged stockholders to request Exxon set new targets for reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. Exxon had sued them in January, even after they agreed to drop the petition, citing concerns of potential future resolutions. Follow This was dropped from the case last month due to jurisdiction issues, leaving Arjuna to face Exxon alone.
