Government regulators are set to investigate Microsoft’s dealings with OpenAI and Nvidia for possible antitrust violations in the AI space. Microsoft has been under regulatory scrutiny since its $10 billion deal with OpenAI last year. The probes could impact AI startups as major investors like Microsoft and Nvidia may pull back on deals.
The FTC and DOJ are looking into Microsoft’s investments with OpenAI and Inflection AI, as well as Nvidia’s dominant position in the AI chip market. This could lead to a slowdown in venture funding for AI startups, which accounted for 40% of all venture funding in May with $12.5 billion raised across more than 250 companies.
