From Forbes: 2024-06-12 16:10:23
Nvidia continues to dominate the AI chip market with over 90% market share in data-center GPUs and over 80% market share in AI processors. AMD and Intel are playing catch-up, but Nvidia is evolving with more advanced chips. Nvidia’s stock has soared over 200%, making it the third largest U.S. company by market cap. Intel has been struggling to keep up, facing challenges from underinvestment, manufacturing missteps, and competition from Arm-based chips. Intel lost out on mobile and server chips to Arm, while AMD capitalized on Intel’s missteps to grow its market share. Arm-based chips are gaining popularity, with Nvidia integrating them into its latest GPUs and Google and Microsoft using them in their devices. Intel has launched its next generation Xeon server processors to compete with AMD’s EPYC processors, targeting the public and private cloud market. Intel claims its new chips outperform AMD’s in AI inferencing and power efficiency. AMD is set to release its fifth generation EPYC processors with more cores. Intel is pricing its Gaudi AI chips below Nvidia’s to compete in the market, but the impact remains uncertain. Nvidia remains a strong player in the AI chip market, continually innovating to stay ahead of the competition.
