Airbus revises 20-year demand forecast for jetliners, predicting global fleet to double to 48,230 planes. Industry-wide deliveries of 42,430 new airplanes expected, with 41,490 passenger jets included. Demand for larger wide-body planes accelerating as airlines renew capacity, significant changes affecting long-haul fleet. Forecast includes 940 large freighters and 33,510 single-aisle passenger planes.

Demand for single-aisle planes increases by 3% to 33,510 units, driven by economic forecasts indicating middle class growth. Growth particularly strong in Asia and Middle East, led by India and China. Domestic China traffic expected to surpass the U.S. as air travel continues to rise. Attention shifts to India as top three fastest-growing traffic flows serve the Indian subcontinent.

Airbus predicts increase in wide-body demand by 9% to 8,920 units, with double-digit increases in South America and North America. Middle East forecast trimmed by 2% due to overcapacity reports. Included in wide-body demand forecast are 940 large freighters, up 2% from previous report. Airbus emphasizes contribution of new jets to lower emissions and development of greener fuels.
