Asian stocks were mixed Friday as the yen fluctuated after an update on inflation fueled speculation of interest rate relief in September. U.S. futures were mixed, oil prices rose and the USD/JPY currency dropped 2.1%. Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 lost 2%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index climbed 1.9%. On Wall Street, four out of five stocks in the S&P 500 climbed, despite pullbacks for tech giants. Lower Treasury yields led to a stock market lift, benefiting real estate owners and utility stocks. S&P 500 fell 0.9%, Dow rose 0.1%, Nasdaq composite dropped 2%. US oil prices rose, euro gained.
