Bertoletti wins Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest after Joey Chestnut's sponsorship issue debacle.

Patrick Bertoletti wins Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4, consuming 58 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Miki Sudo sets a new women’s record with 51 wieners eaten. The annual event marked the end of an era after 16-time winner Joey Chestnut parted ways with Major League Eating due to a sponsorship issue.
Joey “Jaws” Chestnut’s banishment from the hot dog eating contest came after a rule prohibiting participants from striking deals with Nathan’s rival was violated. Chestnut, 40, claims he did not have a contract with MLE or Nathan’s and was unaware of the endorsement ban.
While currently barred from competing, MLE calls Chestnut an “American hero” and hopes for his return without representing a competitor. Chestnut holds eating records in 55 categories and was praised by Nathan’s for his previous wins. ESPN made several references to him during the 2024 contest broadcast.
Chestnut plans to livestream a hot dog eating contest as a charity fundraiser from Fort Bliss army base in Texas. The event aims to continue the Fourth of July tradition of competitive eating. Fans can tune in to the livestream on Chestnut’s Instagram account at 5 p.m. ET on Thursday.
