Boeing is set to acquire Spirit AeroSystems in an all-stock deal worth $8.3 billion, aiming to improve safety and quality control. Spirit, a fuselage maker for Boeing, faced production problems including misdrilled holes and misconnected fuselage panels. CEO Calhoun plans to align production systems and workforces for a stronger quality commitment. Airbus also reached an agreement with Spirit for compensation totaling $559 million for manufacturing lines dedicated to Airbus planes. The FAA has halted Boeing’s production expansion until it is satisfied with quality improvements.
