OpenAI has introduced a five-tier system to track progress in developing AI software surpassing human capabilities. The levels range from human-like conversation to AI capable of performing organizational work. OpenAI, currently at level one, is close to reaching level two, termed “Reasoners,” for basic problem-solving tasks comparable to a doctorate-level human mind.

OpenAI’s executives and senior leaders compiled the five-tier scale to gather feedback for potential adjustments over time. The company showcased a research project with its GPT-4 AI model, demonstrating human-like reasoning skills. The levels include “Agents,” “Innovators,” and the most advanced, “Organizations,” for AI mimicking organizational work.

Microsoft recently relinquished its observer role on OpenAI’s board following concerns from antitrust regulators after a $10 billion investment. OpenAI also partnered with Los Alamos National Laboratory for AI research in scientific fields and acquired Rockset for enhanced data indexing and querying capabilities. This move showcases OpenAI’s commitment to advancing AI capabilities and integration.
