Delta CEO Ed Bastian predicts flight disruptions will continue for a few more days

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian stated it will take a couple more days to recover operations from a global cyber outage, cancelling over 4,000 flights since Friday. CrowdStrike’s software update impacted airlines, causing system problems for Microsoft customers. Delta shares closed down 3.5% at $43.83, with 60% of critical applications affected.

Delta’s IT teams are manually fixing affected systems due to CrowdStrike’s update. The crew tracker application, crucial for flight crew placement, requires the most time and manual support to synchronize. Customer complaints are mounting, with some waiting hours for assistance and others resorting to renting cars or facing lengthy flight delays.

Bastian acknowledged the outage occurring during the busiest travel weekend, limiting re-accommodation efforts. The company assures they are fully staffed and ready to assist customers. Delta is taking steps to stabilize staffing, offering incentives for pilots and flight attendants to help handle the situation. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has received complaints and urged Delta to provide prompt refunds to customers.
