FAA approves SpaceX to resume Falcon 9 rocket launches

A Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched a Starlink mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on January 31, 2023.

SpaceX receives approval from the FAA to resume Falcon 9 rocket flights after a 15-day grounding following a rare inflight failure during a Starlink satellite launch.

The FAA determined no public safety issues were involved in the July 11 mishap, allowing SpaceX to return to flight operations with a focus on safety and reliability.

SpaceX identified a loose clamp on a tube in the rocket’s liquid oxygen system as the cause of the midflight failure during the July 11 mission, leading to a leak of liquid oxygen and damage to the engine.

SpaceX plans to remove the problematic tube and related pressure sensor from the rocket’s upper stage engine for near-term launches, relying on alternative sensors and undergoing longer-term design changes.

SpaceX conducted inspection and replacement of sense lines and clamps on the active booster fleet as part of safety measures following the midflight failure.
