Gravitics secures $125 million contract to design space station module for Axiom

Gravitics is pioneering the design of a 4-meter space station module for manufacturing and assembly methods, with plans to expand Axiom Space’s orbiting habitat through a $125 million contract. Gravitics aims to provide plug-and-play space station modules that can launch on various rockets like SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and Blue Origin’s New Glenn.

This Washington-based startup has raised $20 million in venture funding and plans to double its 50-employee team soon. Gravitics’ largest module, StarMax, promises the “largest interior volume in a standalone spacecraft,” standing out in the private space station development landscape.

As part of NASA’s Commercial LEO Destinations program, Gravitics is working on prototypes and testing key components, eyeing a subscale spacecraft launch by 2026. The company has signed innovative agreements with NASA and the Space Force, hinting at a robust trajectory in the burgeoning private space industry.
