Japan’s AIST integrates NVIDIA H200 GPUs into ABCI 3.0 supercomputer, boosting AI capabilities and research. Collaboration with NVIDIA and HPE reinforces Japan’s commitment to technological independence and advancement in generative AI. Upgrade aims to propel Japan’s competitiveness in AI development and innovation.

ABCI 3.0 project, operated by AIST, AIST Solutions, and HPE, receives support from Japan’s METI for strengthening computing resources. NVIDIA collaborates closely with METI on research and education initiatives. Founder and CEO Jensen Huang pledges to invest in AI startups, provide support, training, and education on AI.

NVIDIA’s commitment to Japan includes collaboration in generative AI, robotics, and quantum computing. Huang emphasizes the importance of “AI factories” for handling intensive AI tasks and turning data into intelligence. ABCI in Kashiwa near Tokyo offers ultra-high-density data center for AI and big data applications.

ABCI facility will offer 6 AI exaflops of computing capacity, 410 double-precision petaflops, and Quantum-2 InfiniBand platform for efficient communication. NVIDIA H200 GPUs with HBM3e memory accelerate generative AI and HPC workloads with energy efficiency. Advanced InfiniBand technology ensures high-speed, low-latency communication for intensive AI workloads.

ABCI’s integration of advanced NVIDIA technologies and METI’s investment aim to accelerate joint AI R&D and enhance Japan’s AI development. Subsidizing AI supercomputer development reflects Japan’s strategic vision to lead in global AI landscape. Goal is to reduce time and costs of developing next-generation AI technologies.
