Meta Platforms (META) released the largest version of its Llama 3 AI models with 405 billion parameters, capable of conversing in eight languages, writing high-quality code, and solving complex math problems. The announcement led to a 2.3% rise in Meta’s shares. In addition, Meta introduced lighter-weight Llama 3 models with 8 billion and 70 billion parameters, enhancing their ability to process multi-step requests, particularly for generating computer code.

Meta’s Llama 3 models have shown significant gains on key math and knowledge tests, rivaling some of the most powerful AI models on the market. The company hinted at upcoming multimodal versions integrating image, video, and speech capabilities. Offering these models free-of-charge to developers could potentially undercut rivals’ paid models, attracting more developers to Meta’s platform and boosting innovation and engagement on its social networks.
