The New York Times sued OpenAI, claiming the tech giant used its articles to train ChatGPT. OpenAI wants proof the articles were original. The company requested underlying files from the Times, which the Times called overly broad and improper.

OpenAI faces multiple lawsuits for copyright infringement, including one from the Center for Investigative Reporting and eight U.S. newspapers. The Times argues that OpenAI is not entitled to unbounded discovery into its reporters’ files.
