The UK grocery regulator will formally investigate Amazon if it does not improve supplier treatment. Amazon’s compliance score fell from 59% to 47%. The Groceries Code Adjudicator is monitoring changes Amazon makes to ensure Code compliance and fair treatment of suppliers. Failure to comply may lead to a formal investigation.

Mark White of the GCA noted improvements in retailer-supplier relationships but many suppliers doubt Amazon’s Code compliance. Amazon must communicate and implement necessary changes to comply with the Code. The GCA will not hesitate to launch a formal investigation to ensure fair treatment of suppliers.

The GCA’s annual survey on compliance with the Grocery Supply Code of Practice revealed concerns about Amazon’s adherence to the Code. Retailers are being monitored for how they manage relationships with suppliers. Amazon’s actions will be closely watched to guarantee fair and lawful treatment of suppliers.
