WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is testing a new feature in Android v2.24.15.5 that allows users to translate messages into different languages within the app. The feature aims to integrate Google’s Live Translate functionality seamlessly into WhatsApp chats.

After updating to the beta version, users will receive a notification confirming the availability of transcripts for incoming voice messages. This feature requires users to download a language pack or voice message transcription and currently supports English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Hindi. Voice messages are analyzed and transcribed on the user’s phone for privacy.

The live transcription feature is still under development and not accessible to beta testers yet. Users on the latest WhatsApp for Android beta version via the Google Play Beta program may not have access to it. The availability of this new feature on the WhatsApp for Android beta app is uncertain.

WhatsApp for Android is rumored to be working on a live transcription feature for voice messages. This feature would allow users to generate transcriptions for voice messages they send or receive, possibly indicated by a new banner below a voice message offering the option to receive a transcription.
