Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD is set to open a car production plant in Pakistan and start selling three models through a partnership with Mega Motors. This marks BYD’s entry into the Pakistani market, aiming to promote environmental responsibility and technological innovation.

BYD plans to open flagship stores in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, and begin selling SUV models and a sedan in the fourth quarter of 2024. Mega Motors, a unit of Pakistan’s Hub Power Co Ltd, will establish Pakistan’s first NEV assembly plant to produce BYD’s new energy vehicles.

The new plant is expected to start operations in 2026, with Hub Power Co setting up fast-charging stations across major cities, motorways, and highways in Pakistan to enhance the country’s charging infrastructure. The partnership between BYD and Hubco is seen as a significant investment in the Pakistani market.
