Jeff Bezos has been making headlines for his big-ticket purchases, but his biggest recent buying binge may be in artificial intelligence. Bezos Expeditions, his family office, has invested more than $1 billion in AI this year. Bezos’ investments have included companies like Perplexity AI and Figure AI, with a focus on technology.
AI is now the favorite investment category for family offices, with more than three quarters planning to invest in AI in the next few years. Amazon, where Bezos is the founder and executive chairman, plans to invest over $100 billion in data centers and invested $4 billion in AI safety and research firm Anthropic.
Bezos recently filed a stock-sale plan to unload another $5 billion worth of Amazon shares this year, after selling $8 billion earlier. With over $13 billion in cash, Bezos will now have even more money to bet on the AI boom. Bezos believes AI tools will have profound impacts on technology and change, making them more likely to help than hurt us.
