More than 30,000 Boeing workers were set to strike, halting aircraft production in response to an overwhelmingly rejected labor contract. Employees in Seattle and Oregon voted against a tentative agreement, citing issues like discriminatory conduct. The proposal included 25% wage increases, but fell short of the 40% raise sought by unions.

CEO Kelly Ortberg’s leadership is challenged following worker rejection of the contract, with a potential $1.5 billion cash hit for Boeing from a 30-day strike. Boeing faces financial strain and production challenges as it seeks to recover and address safety concerns, including federal scrutiny of its 737 Max 9 model.
