Walt Disney and DirecTV reach an agreement to restore college football and other programs to 11 million subscribers, ending a blackout that began on Sept. 1. The deal offers satellite TV users more options, including genre-specific packages and access to Disney’s streaming services like Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.

The dispute caused DirecTV customers to miss out on ESPN’s college football games, the U.S. Open tennis tournament, and the ABC-hosted U.S. presidential debate. The blackout resulted in a loss of subscribers for DirecTV, according to the company’s chief marketing officer, Vince Torres.

The agreement comes just in time for Disney to showcase its Emmy-nominated series like “Shogun,” “The Bear,” and “Only Murders in the Building” on Sunday’s Emmy Awards broadcast on ABC. Both companies are pleased with the deal, emphasizing the value of Disney’s content and providing more options for DirecTV customers.
