In a groundbreaking partnership, GOTS and Marple launched the Satellite Cotton Monitoring Project in India, achieving 97% accuracy in detecting cotton fields and over 80% in determining organic status. This project aims to boost organic cotton availability and enhance fiber integrity, setting new industry standards in sustainable agriculture.

Funded by GOTS and the ESA, the project utilized Marple’s CoCuRA software to collect field data from over 6,000 locations in India, refining algorithms for cotton detection. With the ability to identify near-organic practices, this technology streamlines the certification process and promotes sustainable farming methods, ultimately increasing the supply of certified organic cotton.

The CoCuRA software not only verifies cultivation practices but also contributes to fraud prevention in the textile industry. By integrating AI with satellite data, GOTS ensures fiber integrity and strengthens its commitment to sustainable production, setting a benchmark for global textile standards.

Following the successful pilot in India, Marple aims to expand globally with the support of ESA. The project’s innovative use of satellite technology and AI has the potential for global impact, revolutionizing how agricultural crops are monitored and promoting sustainability in textile production. Global Standard looks forward to implementing this technology in other regions and fibers, further advancing sustainability goals.
