Google parent company Alphabet surprised investors by announcing its first-ever dividend of $0.20 per share in 2024, with another quarterly dividend declared later. With 12.48 billion shares outstanding, Alphabet will pay a total of $7.5 billion in dividends this year. Stock buybacks remain the main form of capital return, but future dividend growth is possible.
