Comcast’s NBCUniversal focused on the Paris 2024 Olympics to boost viewership on their streaming platform, Peacock. The Games drew over 30 million viewers, generating $1.2 billion in ad revenue. NBC executives aim to continue leveraging the Olympics’ success in future live sports events.
The Paris Olympics marked NBC’s 18th broadcast, with a $7.65 billion rights deal from 2022 to 2032. Prior Olympics had faced challenges due to the pandemic, but Paris’ picturesque setting and an improved strategy led to higher viewership. NBC also promoted its talent, including Snoop Dogg, Mariska Hargitay, Colin Jost, and more.
Peacock saw significant success during the Olympics, streaming 23.5 billion minutes of content. Offering exclusive shows, AI features, and all live coverage, Peacock attracted 2.8 million new users during the Games. Despite some customer churn post-event, analysts predict sustainable growth for Peacock following this success.
