The NFL makes history with its first game in South America, aiming to expand its global reach. The league’s financial success is evident with $13 billion in revenue last season and an average team value of $6.5 billion. Playing internationally is a priority, with plans to play eight games overseas next season.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sees playing abroad as a way to increase the league’s international presence and grow its fan base. The league has seen positive outcomes from playing in various countries, including increased sponsorship deals and a stronger relationship with international media partners.

The NFL’s Global Markets Program allows teams to build brand awareness and engage with fans in other countries. This season, 25 teams are participating, with marketing rights in 19 international markets. The league’s focus on international expansion has led to increased sponsorship deals and new opportunities for growth.

The NFL’s media rights landscape includes partnerships with traditional broadcasters as well as streaming platforms like YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, and Peacock. The league’s broadcast deals are worth an estimated $11.4 billion in 2024, with some games exclusively available for streaming. Goodell emphasized the importance of catering to fans on streaming platforms while still maintaining a presence on broadcast television.
