Actor Alec Baldwin is facing involuntary manslaughter charges in connection to a fatal shooting on the set of “Rust” in 2021. The film, which is set to premiere at the Camerimage Festival in Poland, has been at the center of legal proceedings since the tragic incident involving a prop gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

After two failed attempts to charge Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter, court documents make clear that the actor was handed a loaded weapon by an assistant director who assured him it was safe. The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in another legal case and is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence.

The Camerimage festival will host the world premiere of “Rust” and feature a panel discussion on the fatal shooting, safety on set, and the continuation of the film’s production after the tragedy. Director Joel Souza, who was also injured in the shooting, will participate in the panel discussion.

Organizers of the festival emphasized the importance of honoring Halyna Hutchins’ memory and ensuring safety on set as cinematographers come together to celebrate the art of cinematography. The event will take place in Toruń, Poland, from November 16-23, providing a platform to remember the talented cinematographer and discuss crucial safety measures on film sets.
