Comcast beat Q3 earnings expectations due to the Summer Olympics in Paris, boosting NBCUniversal’s revenue and Peacock’s subscriber count. Shares rose 6% in premarket trading. Revenue was $32.07 billion, up 6.5% from last year. Media revenue increased by nearly 37% to $8.23 billion, largely due to the Olympics. Peacock added 3 million subscribers during the quarter. Losses improved for Peacock, with an adjusted EBTIDA loss of $436 million. Comcast’s film studios revenue increased by 12.3% to $2.83 billion, while theme parks revenue decreased by 5.3% to $2.3 billion. Domestic broadband net losses totaled 87,000, but excluding those from the end of the Affordable Connectivity Program, there was growth of 9,000 customers. Comcast’s wireless business added 319,000 customers, totaling about 7.5 million lines.
