Is ESG Dead? Perception Looks Different From Reality

From Morningstar: 2024-10-08 10:57:00

According to PitchBook’s Sustainable Investment Survey, perceptions about sustainable investing may not match reality. 39% of respondents who don’t use ESG factors in their investment decisions have still passed on investments due to ESG concerns, showcasing a misalignment between perception and action.

The survey also reveals that 55% of impact investors prioritize market-rate returns, debunking the idea that impact investing always leads to concessions. Despite negative media coverage, many investors are sticking with their ESG and impact investment strategies.

DEI initiatives remain important, despite legal challenges to affirmative action in areas like college admissions. Responses show that many investors still see diversity, equity, and inclusion as necessary elements of investment decisions, even in the face of potential legal risks.
