A dormant Bitcoin address dating back to the early days of the cryptocurrency has been reactivated, yielding a massive gain of 169,358,650%. The wallet contained 50 BTC, now worth almost $3,387,175, after being dormant for 14.3 years. Speculation swirls around the unknown whale’s intentions behind this move.
Cryptocurrencies experienced a surge on Thursday, with Bitcoin up 1% in the last 24 hours to $67,508. Market attention is focused on the Federal Reserve and potential interest rate cuts. According to CME’s FedWatch tool, there is a 97% chance of a 25 basis point rate cut in November.
On-chain analytics indicate that the dormant wallet most likely belonged to an early miner, who earned 50 BTC from mining in July 2010. The exact reason for the wallet’s reactivation remains a mystery, but it could be due to Bitcoin’s substantial price increase over 14 years or the rediscovery of the wallet’s keys.
