Stellantis to shutter and sell proving grounds amid cost-cutting
From CNBC: 2024-10-18 13:24:26
Stellantis plans to close and sell its Arizona proving grounds by year-end as a cost-cutting measure. The facility, purchased in 2007, employs 69 workers and union members. The automaker will use Toyota’s proving grounds next year. This move is part of Stellantis’s ongoing cost-cutting and real estate evaluations, a process that also includes significant layoffs and reductions in U.S. employees. Stellantis has been reducing headcount since the merger, with a 15.5% reduction by the end of 2023. The company has explored outsourcing engineering to lower-cost countries like Brazil, India, and Mexico. Stellantis employs only 11,000 U.S. salaried workers, significantly fewer than other automakers like GM and Ford.
