Hyundai Motor and Waymo have entered a multiyear partnership to add the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle to Waymo’s robotaxi fleet, using Waymo’s sixth-generation autonomous technology. Waymo operates the only commercial robotaxi service in the U.S., providing over 100,000 paid rides per week. Initial testing with Waymo-enabled Ioniq 5s will start by late 2025, with production at Hyundai’s upcoming “Metaplant America” in Georgia. Waymo will purchase and own the vehicles, with potential for further collaboration in the future.
