Americans overwhelmingly support recycling (87%), but inconsistent rules and limited infrastructure are leaving many confused, especially Gen Zs and Millennials, according to a survey by The Harris Poll for America Recycles Day 2024. Recycling tension and anxiety are prevalent, with one in three Americans feeling anxious about what to recycle, driven mainly by younger age groups. Despite 80% believing in the importance of recycling, the national recycling rate remains at 32%, highlighting the need for better guidance and accessibility. The survey also found that most Americans want to recycle more but feel uncertain about doing it correctly.
