Bentley Motors delays plan to offer only all-electric vehicles until at least 2035, citing lack of current customer demand. The British luxury carmaker will continue to focus on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The company plans to release a new EV or PHEV each year until 2035, starting with a Luxury Urban SUV in 2026.

Former CEO Adrian Hallmark initially announced Bentley’s goal to go fully electric by 2030, but the company has faced delays due to software issues and vehicle development challenges. The automaker now aims to adjust to changing market conditions while preparing for future legislation and competition.

Bentley will introduce smaller electric vehicles alongside its traditional luxury models, such as the Bentayga SUV. The company’s shift in strategy includes changing the name of its business plan to “Beyond100+” as it transitions to a more sustainable and electrified future. Bentley recently ended production of its famous “W12” engine to focus on PHEVs with 8- and 6-cylinder engines.

PHEVs combine an internal combustion engine with a hybrid system and larger battery, allowing drivers to travel using electric power before switching to the engine. Bentley’s decision to continue producing PHEVs reflects its commitment to meeting customer demand while adapting to industry shifts.
