Democratic SEC member Jaime Lizarraga is leaving early, giving Republicans majority control

SEC Commissioner Jaime Lizarraga announced his early departure due to his wife’s health issues, leaving just two Republicans and one Democrat in place for the start of Trump’s administration. SEC Chair Gary Gensler is also set to leave on Jan. 20. Trump has not yet named a replacement for Gensler.
With Lizarraga leaving, Republicans will have a majority on the SEC from day one of the new administration. This could lead to changes in policies regarding cryptocurrency regulation and enforcement cases. Trump has criticized Gensler’s approach to the crypto industry, but Gensler has resisted calls for new rules for digital assets.
