Hyundai names North American exec Jose Munoz as CEO, effective Jan. 1

Hyundai Motor Co. appoints Jose Munoz as the next president and CEO, effective Jan. 1, succeeding Jaehoon Chang who will become vice chair of Hyundai Motor – Automotive Division. Munoz, a Spanish native and U.S. citizen, is the first non-Korean CEO of Hyundai, currently serving as global COO and CEO of North American operations.
Under Munoz’s leadership, Hyundai’s North American sales have grown by 16% since 2019 to approximately 801,200 vehicles last year. The company has also invested $12.6 billion in building a new production facility and two battery joint ventures in Georgia as part of its expansion plans.
Munoz, who joined Hyundai in 2019 from Nissan Motor after a 15-year tenure, is focused on continuing Hyundai’s growth trajectory and exceeding customer expectations. The company did not announce a successor for Munoz, who has been a member of Hyundai’s board of directors since 2022.
